CHAPTER 7

Stetson

When I went to the restaurant to meet Parker, I was pleasantly surprised to see Sydney there. I felt her even before I saw her. I’m like a worker bee drawn to a fragrant flower.

When our appetizers come, we go ahead and order dinner. Heidi’s very attractive and she looks like Parker’s type. Actually, she’s definitely his type. She’s also fun and laughs a lot, which is an attractive trait in itself. She carries the same confidence that Sydney has.

Heidi asks, “Sydney, I know you’ve been on the road a lot the last couple weeks but have you been working on your logo for business yet?”

“I messed around with it a bit the other day.”

Parker asks, “What’s your business?”

“I’m a professional organizer,” she says proudly although she braces herself for his response.

“You mean that’s a thing?” Parker asks, using my exact same words from a few days ago.

Sydney looks over at me. “Did you tell him to say that?”

With both hands in the air, I say, “We never even talked about it.”

“You mean people pay you to organize their own stuff?”

“Yes, and it’s a very lucrative job at that.”

“I’m not doubting you, but I find it strange.”

“Why is that?” Heidi asks.

Taking a large drink of his beer, Parker says. “Because, if you can’t find something you put away, how are you supposed to find it if someone else puts it away?”

“That’s why people need an organizer. We organize so you and you,” she points to Parker and me, “will know where your stuff is.”

Everyone at the table laughs.

For every time Sydney fills her wine glass, I reach over and add a splash of the White Zin to it.

“Sydney’s an organizer, not a housekeeper,” I say slowly so maybe he can understand.

“That’s exactly right,” Sydney agrees.

“I still don’t get it,” Parker says, still confused.

I decide to change the subject.

“So, when did you fly in, Heidi?” I ask.

“Today. Just a little bit ago actually.”

“Have you seen the cottage yet?”

“No, not yet. But we did stop by a few shops from the airport to here, and then we came here for an early dinner.”

“Is everything okay with the cottage?” Sydney asks.

“It’s fine. I was just wondering if it would be too small for two people.”

Sydney says, “I think it’s plenty big enough for the both of us.”

“Usually, it is big enough for people traveling lightly, but I’m not sure how cramped it’ll feel when you get all of your belongings in them. Remember, it's two-bedroom but you’ll also have your crafting supplies.”

“Oh, that’s true. Good point.”

Parker says, “When we get done here, we’ll go over with them to make sure they won’t need a second cottage.”

Parker’s getting pretty tipsy and I didn’t want him to know which cottage they would be staying in. I guess it would be easy enough to find out as very few are being rented and Sydney’s car would be outside their cottage.

Heidi speaks up, “I didn’t bring that much with me and I’m not sure what Sydney brought.
